Mark Walker fights to save his ambassador appointment
President Trump reportedly offered him a job in DC in exchange for backing out of the Sixth District congressional primary and letting Addison McDowell have the job. Walker did it, and Trump pledged to appoint Walker as his ambassador to promote and protect religious freedom worldwide.
Well, here we are and Walker still sits unconfirmed by the US Senate. Senators Budd and Tillis have gone public with their sentiments that Trump should kick Walker to the curb and find someone else. You could argue that Walker has a point: The decent thing to do is honor what you promised to do.
(But then again, I seem to remember someone pledging that his first vote in the US House would be against electing John Boehner speaker. But someone got elected and voted for Boehner despite having told everyone he would not.)
In response to Budd and Tillis, Walker has taken to social media to make his case:
It’s interesting to see Tennessee’s Tim Burchett involved in this. He’s better than ANYTHING Republican and elected that North Carolina currently has in DC.
Here’s the full release and the names of the Walker supporters:
The North Carolina-tied names we see here? Incumbent House Republicans Virginia Foxx and David Rouzer are there. Curiously, so is the name of former congresswoman Renee Ellmers.
It’s interesting to see the names of the current House Speaker and Majority leader there.
Didn’t Walker catch some heat in 2024 for allegedly using people’s names as endorsers when they reportedly did not authorize him to do so? I sooooooo hope we’re not dealing with more of that here.
In the end, the US Senate has the final word on stuff like this. And our two senators have already spoken their piece.
