Congressional candidate forums!
With two open seats in an off-year, we’ve got quite a historic time here in our state. There are a lot of folks competing for your attention and your votes in order to go to DC.
We want you to to vote. And we want that vote to be as informed as possible. The drive bys aren’t doing much in the Ninth District now that Mark Harris has been run off. And the dominant Raleigh drive bys don’t seem to realize that there IS stuff happening east of I-95.
You can bookmark our site and check in regularly. That will help you tons in becoming an informed voter. But one of the other really important things to do is to attend candidate forums and talk directly to candidates.
The Crystal Coast Republican Men’s Club is hosting a candidate forum for the Third Congressional District on April 18th in Morehead City. The event will be held at the Southern Salt restaurant and doors will open at 5:30 PM. (Program starts at 7PM.)
The primary election for The Third District will be held on April 30th.
Over in the Ninth, the Mecklenburg Young Republicans will be hosting a candidate forum at The Dilworth Grille on Morehead Street in Charlotte on April 23. The program will run from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.
The primary election in the Ninth will be on May 14th.
Also Sweet Union, Union County Republican Women’s group headed by Neva Helms, will have their forum tonight, Tuesday night, at the newly renovated Monroe Courthouse. If Republicans want to win in the 9th Congressional district Sweet Union is the place to start.
The God and Country Christian Alliance will host several Third District candidates at their next monthly meeting on April 15th at Moore’s BBQ in New Bern. The meeting begins at 7:00 and after a 5 minute opening from each candidate the floor is open for questions. The event is open to all.
Seven candidates were at the March meeting as well.
Which candidates will be attending? The ability of the audience to ask questions is important. Your group is to be commended for that. So many others do not offer that opportunity.
Thanks for updates!
Forums abound in the 3rd. Jacksonville Chamber yesterday, Currituck County GOP April 9, Fairfield Harbor/New Bern April 16, Crystal Coast Republican Men’s Club in Morehead City April 18 and the 3rd District combination Fundraiser/Reception in Washington April 25. An informed electorate is the goal with thanks to all the Candidates for this grueling schedule and to the host organizations for stepping forward.
Dear Congressional Candidates:
Thank you for your willingness to step forward and run for office during this special election. As you know, voter turnout will be very low in this election. To combat low voter turnout, we in Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, and Pasquotank Counties are jointly hosting a candidate forum on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at 6:30 p.m., taking place at Currituck County Middle School (4263 Caratoke Hwy, Barco, NC 27917). Recognizing the multi-county district size and the short period of time, we understand that it would had been very difficult to host a forum in every county. Due to its centrally location among the counties in the Northeast, Currituck County was selected to host the forum.
The forum will be moderated by the Honorable Jerry Tillett, Senior Resident Superior Court Judge.
A few housekeeping guidelines, but not limited to:
1). Forum starts precisely at 6:30 p.m.;
2). Each candidate will be provided a 3-minute introduction;
3). Each candidate will be asked the exact same questions;
4). Each candidate will be given 3-minutes for closing remarks; and
5). A surrogate will be provided the opportunity to speak during opening and closing remarks. However, they may not answer questions on your behalf.
The forum will have a videographer present, and this forum will be filmed live via Facebook. Also, each candidate will be provided a copy of the forum video, thus, to use it on his / her websites. Leading up to the event, we’ll be sending out news/press releases informing the public, and we expect to have local media and Norfolk TV stations present for the forum. Attached is a graphic that we posted on Facebook promoting the event. At this juncture, we have 11 candidates committed. However, please reply to this email for official acceptance or to share surrogate information. Each candidate will have a seat with a name placard. Lastly, please email a brief bio of the candidate – if it’s possible we’ll use this info in the news / press releases as well as potentially in the program.
We look forward to hearing from you.
