Cease & Desist: NRA lawyering up over GOPAC’s pro-Berger ads, billboards
We already told you about the National Rifle Association expressing concern about mailers and billboards promoting the reelection of state senator Phil Berger (R) in Rockingham County. The NRA expressed concern about (1) unauthorized use of their logo in the mailers and billboards and (2) incorrect information in the mailers and ads about an “A+ grade” for Berger which the NRA says has not happened.
An organization called GOPAC – which includes senator Berger on its governing board – has been identified as the responsible party for the mailers and billboards. A NRA spokesman had said GOPAC was asked to stop the mailers and take down the billboards.
Apparently, this has not yet happened. Here’s a message from Rockingham County voter Doug Isley to the NRA asking WHY:
And HERE is the response to Isley from a NRA representative:
In response to a follow-up request for a copy of the cease-and-desist letter, here is what the NRA’s Ms. Kettle had to say:
One would think senator Berger, as a leader within GOPAC, would be very concerned about a group he’s so intimately involved with apparently misleading the voters in his district (even if it is to his benefit).
Read SBI was ‘investigating’ the campaign records of sheriff opposing Berger. The point is, the record search go back many, many years? I hope in the end the sheriff can find some avenue to sue for harassment and intimidation for Berger using a state agency to investigate opposition. Rise up Rockingham County. Elect Page…
This is not the first time GOPAC has lied to Rockingham County voters to help a Berger who was losing a race. Same tactics GOPAC used to smear Craig Travis and bail out Kevin Berger in the Board of Commissioners race last year.
GOPAC is in bed with the liberal special interests. It was involved in promoting North Carolina’s Green New Deal, HB 951 as totally rewritten by Berger in a last minute Senate maneuver. They are total slime balls.
