2026: The year of the state-hopping candidate
We’ve already told you about Margot Dupre (Idaho, Colorado, Florida and North Carolina) in the US Senate race. If you recall, she listed her home address as a Charlotte PO Box when she registered to vote and filed for office. North Carolina law requires you to ID the actual specific location you actually lay your head every night as your home address.
The North Carolina state board of elections held a hearing on her case — where her state of residency is in question — yesterday. The proceedings got continued until February 4.
Dupre appears to have run for the US Senate in Colorado in 2020.
In 2024, she appears to have run for Congress in the state of Idaho.
Florida election records appear to indicate that she has an active Florida voter registration and last voted in that state in April 2025.
Absentee ballots for the March 2026 primaries have already been mailed out. Early voting for the state’s primary races begins February 12.
Now we’re learning about Teddy Daniels, one of four GOP candidates for sheriff of Dare County, in the March 2026 primary. In 2020, Daniels ran unsuccessfully for Pennsylvania’s 8th congressional district seat in the US House. In 2022, Daniels made a run for lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania.
(We’re not aware of any questions about Daniels’s residency.)
