Tea Party groups targeting Ma Cotten
Leaders of two of the largest, most active Tea Party organizations have issued releases announcing their intention to protest at the NCGOP 2nd congressional district meeting in Sanford on Saturday, April 9. Moore Tea Citizens and the Asheville Tea Party issued the following statement:
[…] It has been very obvious from the moment of Mr. Harnett’s election at the 2015 State Convention, that the Central Committee has been highly displeased that their establishment insider candidate, endorsed by Governor McCrory, Senators Richard Burr and Thom Tillis, was not the choice of the GOP base.
Conversely, The GOP party members who elected Mr. Harnett are not at all pleased with the NCGOP Central Committee for their non-transparent, secretive tactics thwarting Chairman Harnett attempts to be successful. These tactics include: denying him access to NCGOP headquarters, his email account, and false accusations of hacking the website.
The grassroots support for Chairman Harnett is based in his Conservative credentials and relationship with his GOP constituents. The grassroots contend that neither has been embraced by the party establishment elites.
The NCGOP war on the grassroots has also gained much media attention in both state and national news outlets such as The Wall Street Journal. This ‘rift’ has even caught the attention of talk show host Rush Limbaugh. If this is not resolved, it has the potential of damaging the outcome of our general elections in November.
[…]Liberty loving citizens who refuse to sit down, and shut up, please join us to support NCGOP Chairman Hasan Harnett. Chairman Harnett is a fine man and Patriot. He does not deserve this treatment from NCGOP party elites whose only interest is to protect their power, not represent WE THE PEOPLE.
Come and join the many so together we make a difference.

The 2nd congressional district is chaired by Joyce “Ma” Cotten, who — with the aid of her daughter Kim Cotten-West, chairman of the 3rd congressional district GOP — has led the attack on NCGOP chairman Hasan Harnett.
Sources tell us that, in addition to activists from the Asheville area and Moore County, we can expect to see participants in the protest from the Triad, The Triangle, and coastal region of North Carolina.
Pardon my ignorance of insider shenanigans, but how did Ma Kettle get control of the NC GOP Central Committee?
(If you don’t know who Ma Kettle was, Google it.)
The Tea groups need to recall that it was the Cottens, Cumbie, and many others of our elected party officials on the Central Committee who helped elect Hasan. They believed he was the best choice to lead our party. These folks wanted him to succeed, and invested extraordinary effort in trying to make that happen.

True
It makes you wonder about their agenda, because the Cotten crew started opposing Harnett from the very first Central Committee meeting after he was elected. They also went hard against the grassroots in lots of other ways, too. They consistently supported the machinations of liberal David Lewis, and Cotten was the biggest promoter of former Karl Rove frontman Dallas Woodhouse, who had no experience in the GOP or in running campaigns, for Executive Director. Cotten is a real piece of work.
Is Joyce playing both ends against the middle to try to enhance her own power and position? That would appear to explain her otherwise somewhat contradictory moves.
Just thinking this morning of the one thing that Joyce and Kim and Dallas and Tom could do to make all this scathing press go away.
Repent.
The other is:
Resign
Joyce I do hope you are reading this note. Joyce you have been working in the NCGOP for many years and now it’s time for you to let someone else take your place. Your bitterness for those who disagree with you are attacked with venom that is very unkind and hurts the Republican Party.
As one who worships at her own altar is a sad comment of one’s life. I hope at times you do look in the mirror and see what looks back. That in itself should be a eye opener. I can’t believe you enjoy the disdain people within the GOP have for you. I hope the selfishness and deceitfulness you are exhibiting is not your end, but I think it well may be.
I feel sorry for people like you which have imagined power trips. Unfortunately it’s epidemic in politics. Time to face reality the Republican Party does not revolve around what you do or say. You will soon find out that once you are gone you will be forgotten rather quickly. However in your case the longer you try to hang on to power the faster you will slip down the slippery slope.
I urge you to hold on to what self respect that is left and retire honorable. if not for yourself do it for the Republican party you say you dearly love.
I hope efforts to thwart the will of the body will stop, but, sadly, I have no confidence that it will. It doesn’t seem as if the people who are trying improperly to take control of the GOP understand the damage they are doing. What a shame.
Bring it on, you peons. Those of us in the elite are going to crush you. We are the ones who should decide what happens in the party, and we are not about to let it be run by the riff-raff that calls itself the grassroots. The party is ours, I tell you, and you can’t have it. We are going to price you out of the state convention with those ultra-high fees and there is nothing you can do about it. We are going to take back everything that is rightfully ours, and that includes the chairmanship. Don’t go away mad, just go away!
Despite all the back & forth above, Ms. Cotten is terrible at running a meeting…when you have a room full of volunteers, the most important thing you need to do is respect them and their time. Let’s have someone with real leadership skills.
