UNC athletics, Rush & the ghost of McCarthyism
The leftist lynch mob is STILL after El Rushbo even after he apologized for his choice of words. This proves it’s not about “civil discourse.” It’s all about shutting down the most effective obstacle to leftist domination of American society. In case you’re wondering — to the leftists — civil discourse means only making statements that they agree with 100 percent.
The folks at bluenc.com are leading the charge against El Rushbo. Have you ever browsed that site? These guys are hardly the best choice to lecture Rush — or anyone — about “civil discourse.” Hi Kettle. I’m Pot and you’re black.
Former UNC president Bill Friday (Is he still alive?) was even hauled out to call on UNC to drop Rush Radio 106.1 from The Tar Heel Sports Network. Most people, these days, remember Friday from those touchy-feely interview shows he hosted for years on UNC public television. Friday, for the longest time, has been a Democrat hack closely tied to Jim Hunt and Terry Sanford. In other words, Friday is a hateful, hard-core leftist masquerading as a nice old man. Just like Andy Griffith.
Folks, there is a reason 106.1 FM markets itself as “Rush Radio.” Rush is a ratings bonanza. If your station carries Rush’s program, you dominate every day from noon to 3. You also rake in big advertising $$$$$ during that period.
Carbonite, one of the advertisers who abandoned Rush, is learning a hard lesson:
On Saturday, Carbonite CEO David Friend released a statement on his company’s website declaring that Carbonite had decided to “withdraw” advertising from Rush Limbaugh’s radio show in the wake of his controversial remarks involving Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke because it will “ultimately contribute to a more civilized public discourse”:
Even though Mr. Limbaugh has now issued an apology, we have nonetheless decided to withdraw our advertising from his show. We hope that our action, along with the other advertisers who have already withdrawn their ads, will ultimately contribute to a more civilized public discourse.
However, it hasn’t done much to contribute to his company’s stock price. Since the market opened on Monday through its close today, Carbonite stock (NASDAQ:CARB) has plummeted nearly 12 percent, outpacing the drop of the NASDAQ index in that same time period by nine-and-a-half points. It was also one of the biggest decliners on the NASDAQ on Tuesday.
$$$$$ Ouch $$$$$.
For decades, leftists have howled about the “injustice” of the late Senator Joseph McCarthy’s efforts to root out communists in government and media. It’s un-American, they told us, to persecute someone because their political views differ from yours.
Anytime Christians complain about the rot televised on network TV, leftists sniff that Christians are overreacting. You don’t have to watch it. You can just turn it off.
When the Left gets angry about something broadcasted, they unleash the mobs and the intimidation tactics. Talk to any conservative working in Hollywood, the mainstream media, or academia about that.
UNC needs to tread carefully on this. I know you have more than your fair share of leftist kooks creeping around the streets of Orange County. Playing politics with the ball game radio play-by-play will primarily affect the alumni. You know — those wealthy Wall Street Journal-reading, Rush-listening, working -for-a-living types who shell out big bucks each year to fund scholarships and to pay for season tickets.
Try funding your athletic program with pocket change from those Occupy kooks on Franklin Street — and the posters on bluenc.com — doing all the hollering about Rush.
