Smokin’ The Vote (on Jones Street)
The National Organization for Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) has announced who – among the members of the General Assembly – would be friendliest to the idea of legalizing weed. Surprisingly, the idea has a super-majority of support in both GOP-dominated chambers of the legislature.
NORML graded our legislators with letters ranging from A (total pot fan) to F (keep things as they are).
Surprisingly, 36 of the Senate’s 50 members got a grade from A through D, meaning they have exhibited some level of support for loosening marijuana laws or legalizing the weed altogether. (A total of three members got no grade at all.)
State senator Bobby Hanig (R) – running for the GOP nod in the 1st congressional district — got a grade of B from NORML.
Over in the state House, NORML gave grades from A through D to 74 of the GOP-dominated chamber’s 120 members. A total of 17 House members got NO GRADE at all.
For the record, ALL of the legislators representing Moore County – or parts of it – got grades of F from NORML.
One interesting item of note — the editors of the NORML site admit in writing that they are confused / unclear about when North Carolina’s next elections will occur. Sounds about right for a bunch of potheads.
