Michael Whatley: A Cheney-Kinzinger Republican
The current NCGOP chairman loves to talk about Donald Trump and post pictures of himself with Trump’s plane. But much of what he does and says aligns much more with Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger — the two former “Republican” congressmen who colluded with Democrats on the farcical so-called “January 6 committee”.
For instance, take this excerpt from The Assembly’s February 2021 interview with Phil Berger:
*Yeah, that’s something to be proud of.* I’m still waiting for him to also condemn: (1) the feds holding people in solitary for years without official charges or a trial date, (2) the excessive charges against defendants, (3) the failure to release all of the security footage despite promises from Speaker McCarthy, (4) revelations that the cops on-scene agitated and provoked violence by shooting people in the head with rubber bullets and flash-bangs, (5) the feds’ overall North Korean-style response to the incident, and (6) the authoritarian overreach of the congressional J6 committee.
The weasel will never do it. I won’t hold my breath.
Whatley and his ilk HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE the so-called MAGA crowd. They’d like to see more of us thrown into federal dungeons. Whatley loves the high-end cocktail parties, the photo ops with celebrities, no-show jobs at the RNC, and the TV cameras. Conservatism? Not so much.
I’d like to see some GOP leaders working to get to the bottom of what really happened on January 6, 2021 on the US Capitol Grounds. Maybe some real leaders will show their faces some day soon.
What do you expect? Whatley is a full blown Thom Tillis “Republican”. He was originally instructed by Tillis to find a candidate to run for chairman, and then instructed by Tillis to be the candidate. Susan Tillis was an integral part of Whatley’s first campaign, and Tillis is the only prominent endorsement he has in the chairman’s race this time. Tillis even came down to Raleigh for Whatley’s re-election campaign announcement. If you like Tillis, you should love Whatley. If you think Tillis is an embarassment, you should run as ran as you can from Whatley.
Many suspect Whatley deliberately crashed the quorum at the December ExCom meeting to avoid a censure resolution on Tillis, and that is why he has continuously refused to call an ExCom meeting to pass the budget even though that means he has been spending party money illegally for months since it has not been approved by the ExCom.
The worst part is that Tillis is eyeing a run for governor that would be a disaster for the party, and his boy Whatley being in the chairman’s office would be an encouragement for Tillis to do that. The most effective way to cast a NEVER TILLIS vote is to vote out his flunky Whatley.
“Many suspect Whatley deliberately crashed the quorum at the December ExCom meeting to avoid a censure resolution on Tillis,”
During the drive down I was wondering if that was going to occur…. and poof it did.
Whatley was in Buncombe County, Saturday May 27th. He was asked what he planned to do about Tillis at the convention by a delegate. He responded that he had “many stern conversations with him and let Tillis know he was very upset with him.”
I personally stated and asked the following, with the corresponding responses from the Chairman:
1. Thank you for you very quick censure of Burr via the Central Committee. Why do you refuse to the same to Tillis. No Response
2. Over 50% of counties have voted to censure Tillis and you won’t even let it be heard on the convention floor. He responded that the resolution would be heard.
3. My counter – You had the censures, including my county’s, removed from the resolutions report and replaced with the resolution YOU submitted which does NOT even mention Tillis’s name. Why? His response – The resolution will be heard from the floor. I countered with No it won’t and you made sure of it by scrubbing them all.
4. Why do you keep giving Tillis cover? Over 50% of counties and the grassroots have told you they want him censured and you will not move on it. Why?
So – Whatley has the Resolutions Committee remove the censures & replace it with his platform resolution, which is much like what we already have in the Plan of Organization.
An emergency Central Committee meeting was called with days to censure Burr and here we sit months after Tillis abandoned the platform with multiple counties voting on and calling for his censure and the NCGOP has done NOTHING.
Why??
If you want Thom Tillis to be the de facto chairman of the NC GOP, then vote to re-elect Whatley.
