Dark, covert gambling money in Johnston County, too?

Soooooo — it looks like some powerful interests within the national / international gambling industry are putting beaucoup bucks into our state legislative races.

The American Conservative Fund – generously funded by entities like Draft Kings – has been found to be involved in senator Phil Berger‘s race in Guilford and Rockingham counties, and in the GOP primary for the open House District 51 seat covering Lee and Moore counties.

As you may remember, there was quite a hullabaloo in Raleigh over a Phil Berger-led plan to introduce casino gambling in locations around the state outside of American Indian land.  That casino kerfuffle has been a HUGE issue in Berger’s primary race against sheriff Sam Page.

Now we learn that this American Conservative Fund is involved in Johnston County as well — in support of senator Benton Sawrey and representative Larry Strickland.

Surely, there are others.  Please let us know if you see evidence of this American Conservative Fund getting involved in races in your home area.

One does have to wonder:  If these expenditures are truly all about gambling, what do the people behind this PAC think they are buying with their money?  Is there a plan out there that we – the voting, tax-paying public – have yet to be informed about?
