#ncga: A familiar face from 2012?
Republican Ed Goodwin gave Elaine Marshall a spirited challenge in the 2012 Secretary of State race. Now, it appears Goodwin is eyeing a different route to Raleigh:
Eddy Goodwin, a former state ferry director and former Chowan commissioner, says he plans to run for state representative in the newly configured 1st House District [….]
Goodwin, 65, is planning to run in the new House district that includes Chowan, Perquimans, Tyrrell, Bertie, Washington and Camden counties. He’s seeking the seat because current House 1 state Rep. Bob Steinburg, R-Chowan, isn’t seeking re-election to the House but plans to run for the state Senate instead.
The filing period for the March primaries opens in February.
Goodwin said he likes the direction the state has been going under the Republican-led General Assembly but would like to work to ensure that northeastern North Carolina is treated fairly when it comes to funding for transportation and other infrastructure projects.[…]
Sounds fair. I got to know Goodwin while covering his 2012 race against Marshall. He seemed like a pretty good guy. Though, something did come up later in this article that has me concerned:
[…] If he’s successful in his bid for a House seat, one of the key issues Goodwin will be grappling with is the development of alternative energy sources in the region.
Goodwin said he believes that wind power and other alternative energy sources are part of a balanced approach to energy policy for the state.
“You have got to have a blend of everything,” he said.
Goodwin said he doesn’t like everything about wind power and other alternative energy sources but thinks there are ways to balance the positive and negative aspects of different sources of energy.
“I think there’s a way to get it balanced out,” Goodwin said.
So, District 1 Republicans may end up replacing one solar weenie — Steinburg — with ANOTHER ONE?
There IS another choice out there for 1st district Republicans. Take a good look at Candice Hunter.
She doesn’t strike me as a, um, “team player” in Raleigh. We have too many of those, right now.
It is good to see a progressive Republican who believes like George Soros, Barack Obama, Tom Steyer, and myself on pushing solar and wind energy run for this seat. Ed Goodwin will help fullfil President Obama’s green energy legacy.
It is good to see that Goodwin puts President Obama’s principles on this issue above those of the platform of his own political party.
Who cares if the redneck peons will not be able to afford their electric bills? As President Obama himself said these green energy policies will cause electric rates “to necessarily skyrocket” . You see, wind and solar are some of the most expensive ways to produce electricity and that will raise electric bills for consumers. That is all part of the plan to help save the polar bears by making sure that redneck peons will not be able to afford their air conditioning and will have to turn it off. But who cares about those peasants. This is all about saving the polar bears.
Oh, and you can all thank me for inventing the internet so we can have these discussions.

Goodwin is clearly a special interest Republican, bought and paid for by the wind and solar goons. He does NOT need to be in the legislature.
A proper Republican position is to support free enterprise in energy and letting the free market determine sources of supply. Goodwin is a crony capitalism supporter who wants government to put its thumb on the scales. The solar and wind goons need that because their “industry” is very inefficient and could never survive in the marketplace standing on its own two feet. They have to have government tilting the playing field in their favor, which is what Goodwin is saying he would do.
What is particularly bad about special interest politicians propping up this crony capitalist “industry” is that solar and wind are extremely inefficient, and large scale use of them drives up electric rates for consumers and for industry. They drive away jobs and they create energy poverty for citizens. Countries that have built lots of wind and solar have seen electric rates double and even triple. North Carolina cannot afford that and we cannot afford sleazy special interest politicians like Goodwin and Steinburg.
Goodwin clearly is bought and paid for by the wind and solar special interests. he will do their bidding instead of standing up for electric consumers. Special interest politicians like Goodwin do NOT need to be in the legislature.
The proper role of government in any industry is to support a free market and in energy that means letting the market determine the sources of supply, not government. Government should not be dictating winners and losers. Goodwin, however, wants government to put its thumb on the scales in favor of very inefficient suppliers, wind and solar. Wind and solar cannot survive in a free market standing on their own two feet without government intervention. They are that inefficient. Goodwin wants to insure that government intervention. That is crony capitalism and it stinks.
The worst angle on this, however, is that everywhere that government has put its thumb on the scales for wind and solar, energy prices have skyrocketed, driving away other industry and creating energy poverty for citizens. Rates for electricity have often doubled or tripled. Take the case of the Canadian province of Ontario, for example:

Goodwin wants to take his thirty pieces of silver from the solar goons and wind goons and do THAT to the people of North Carolina. He is unfit for public office, as is Bob Steinburg.
Ed Goodwin supporting Wind and Solar with high cost for all Residents is not the best choice. Representative Bob Steinburg was always in trouble by supporting Solar and Wind. Hope he loses for the Senate!
