Details on the possible motive behind the dark gambling money

Why is the gambling business so interested in North Carolina’s GOP primaries for the General Assembly?  Have they been promised something?  Why are there such great efforts to hide the origins of this money?

We’ve published a handful of items already about the activities of the American Conservative Fund – a dark PAC which appears to have been significantly funded by the company that owns online betting company DraftKings.

We ran into an always well-plugged-in source on Jones Street and got their very interesting take on all of this campaign spending:

“DraftKings is wanting “prop” bets and “micro-betting” to be approved in NC. They’d love to sign a deal with sports bars like Buffalo Wild Wings where they could have gambling kiosks/tablets on tables where people could bet on whether the next pitch is a strike or a ball, next play a pass or a run, things like that.”

This is about a lot more than just one’s personal feelings about legalized gambling.  We’ve got a deep-pocketed entity from out-of-state swooping in here and purchasing influence with state leaders who are supposed to be representing US.

Also, it roils us that this is being orchestrated quietly behind closed doors. Why not pitch the idea to the people you are supposed to be representing and let them (US) tell you how we feel about it?
