Who the heck are these guys?  Are they crazy?  Are they on something? 

Nope and Nope.

Our editorial operations are tucked away in a secret bunker hidden among the golf courses of Moore County.

The Haymaker is a shoestring operation with the mission of calling B.S. when we see it — and questioning the motives and activities of the political class in DC and Raleigh who claim they know what’s best for US.

Some Occupy Wall Street dirtbag wrote to us a while back suggesting that “no one outside” our “hick town” reads this site.  According to our ISP,  The Daily Haymaker is averaging about 30,000 unique page hits per week.  An analysis of our page hits, hate mail, email subscriptions, Twitter and Facebook traffic  indicates that we are reaching readers from Murphy to Manteo and from  Greenville (SC) to Charleston.  We also apparently have fans / readers  in New York, DC, Florida, California and the UK.

We’re not about fawning over Pat McCrory and Thom Tillis, nor are we about cheerleading for the NCGOP.  Talking about executive committee meetings, College Republican / Young Republican conventions,  and resolutions makes our eyes glaze over.  

It’s NOT about who is in charge.  It is about WHAT the people in charge DO.

We  try to live by the motto established by William F. Buckley and the founders of National Review:  Stand Athwart History and Yell ‘Stop.’

Our GUY IN CHARGE — editor and publisher Brant Clifton — has marched to the beat of a different drum from very early in life.   The grandson of a Democrat party machine boss, Mr. Clifton registered Republican at 18 and campaigned for Ronald Reagan and George Bush.  He worked for the late U.S. Senator Jesse Helms in Washington during and right after college.

Mr. Clifton took on the liberal media as an analyst with The Media Research Center, then jumped into a lengthy career with the ‘drive-by media.’  His work has appeared in local newspapers in The Carolinas.  He has done on-camera work for ABC’s Good Morning America, and print work for national publications such as US News & World Report and People magazine.  Mr. Clifton has also worked as a correspondent for AP, UPI, Reuters and Agence France Presse.
