NC-02: She wants us to PAY for WHAT ???
Renee Ellmers must have been itching for some more coverage on this site. It’s been a while since she graced our home page. Miss Harnett County has apparently introduced a bill mandating that the feds reimburse local authorities for taking care of illegal aliens. :
Congresswoman Renee Ellmers (R-NC) has introduced a bill that would use money earmarked for foreign aid to reimburse states for money spent to detain and educate illegal immigrants.
Ellmers’ Accountability in Foreign Aid Act addresses concerns Republicans have over the billions the states have been forced to spend due to the failure of the federal government to address illegal immigration.
“The situation at the border is unprecedented–children are coming into our states at a rate that will overwhelm our local communities and their available resources,” Ellmers said. “These children are being funneled into our public schools and our hospitals are forced to provide emergency care, but our states are given no financial assistance to deal with this ongoing problem.”
“Rather than continue to supply an endless amount of foreign aid abroad, it’s time we redirect funding sent overseas and prioritize our local governments who are left footing the bill,” she said.
Never mind that the feds HAVE NO MONEY and this law — if passed — will simply add to the obscene federal debt. How about forcing the executive branch to ENFORCE existing immigration law? Where is THAT legislation? MORE:
“State and local governments, as well as school boards, would be able to apply for reimbursement for the expenses to the Treasury Department,” The Hill reported. “Applicable expenses would include public school education, detention facilities, medical care and other services for the immigrants.”
Ellmers said that the program would be paid for by withholding 15 percent of foreign aid accounts. She excluded food aid programs, military aid to Israel, and other military aid programs. She also said that programs that remove unexploded land mines would be exempt, as would Global Health Programs and programs for non-proliferation, anti-terrorism, and other related programs.
Politicians try to feed this kind of nonsense to low information voters all the time. “Oh, city taxpayers won’t have to cover the bill. The STATE will pick up the cost.” They are counting on the fact that the LIVs will not put 2 and 2 together and realize both entities get their money from the same frickin’ place. (Given what I know about Ellmers, I am not all that sure that SHE understands that. )
How would this bill put a cork in the flood of illegal aliens? If local authorities have a blank check from the feds, where is the incentive to turn away or report illegals? This bill creates another source of revenue for the local educrats / bureaucrats.
I am very skeptical of this campaign-time “tough talk” on immigration. Remember her screaming hissy fit at her constituents and her on-air meltdown with Laura Ingraham? Also, don’t forget her kiss-up to the amnesty crowd in Randolph County.
She has a history of campaign-time “come-to-Jesus” moments. In 2012, Ellmers ran ads claiming to be “a fighter for traditional values.” Yet she publicly bashed the vote on the marriage amendment to the state constitution. She’s also been back and forth on the whole issue of defunding and repealing ObamaCare.
Mexico receives foreign aid to secure the border. Since they are not doing that I am in favor of taking away the money we give Mexico in foreign aid to help pay for the mess Obama and the LibTards have made here. Actually I am not in favor of any foreign aid. It was originally given to keep other dictators in power and beholding to us. At this point I would take all foreign aid to balance the budget.
We should also zero out foreign aid to the major countries these interlopers are coming from in Central America.
This bill, however, stinks. Ellmers is nothing but Etheridge in a skirt. I am glad I do not live in that district, as I could never vote for her with her miserable record. I would like the contributions I gave her in her first campaign and in the recount fight back, but that will never happen. She is a disgrace to the GOP and to NC.

The Mexican government actually prints pamphlets to guide people on how to illegally cross into the US. This is going against what they are supposed getting the foreign aid for.
Oh, and do you know who has represented the Government of Mexico in lobbying in Washington, DC? The lobbying firm of Haley and Henry Barbour, the establishment Republicans who orchestrated all of those extremely nasty Watergate-style dirty tricks against the conservative candidate in the Mississippi GOP Senate primary this year. That pair of despicable suckweasels needs to be run out of the GOP, but former GOP state chairman ”Rippon Robin” Hayes actually invited Haley Barbour as a featured speaker at the NCGOP state convention in June of 2013.

Not a thought I want right before lunch. Bobby Ray will always be an off-the-rack navy blue suit kinda guy. Of course with the ultra-liberal track that we are on……….who knows.
Hate to say, gents. I consider myself a loyal Republican, but they have deserted me. Now I must desert them. I will not hold my nose and vote. I will vote with the spirit of sending a message to the not so Grand Old Party that we are not fools and blind followers.
Aiken is smart, informed, and even though he has some celebrity status, he doesn’t insult his constituents. He might even listen. Ellmers does not.
I also believe from what I have been told that Aiken, even if he doesn’t best Ellmers, he is doing what he thinks is his calling. And wants to serve the people.
Can’t say the same for Ellmers.
So I will take my chances with Aiken. And I will also write in John Rhodes instead of vote for Thilli$. GOP gets nothing else from me until they get the message.
I’m stubborn that way.

Neither candidate is good for wee the people, not sure what I would do, maybe leave that section of the ballot blank or write someone in.
I feel sorry for both Democrats and Republicans in the Second District. Neither side has a decent choice in this race.
The Second District Democrat Party is quite happy with their Congressional candidate. The schools are festooned with Clay signs! Got to love the public educational collective mindset!
She really is tone deaf to the needs of her constituents. In the south end of the District are a lot of military retirees. A lot of the less disabled among still have to pay for their own disability pay which is subtracted from their pensions. It’s called “concurrent receipt” and you’d think she’d try to eliminate it by diverting the money to meet the needs of these veterans because it’s definitely a sore point in the veteran community.

NOW she’s noticed the costs to taxpayers?
This current wave is the tip of the iceberg. Why has she not even said one word previously about the costs for education, costs in the criminal justice system for courts and incarceration, not to mention the costs for anchor babies in welfare, food stamps, etc?
Renee Ellmers is another ‘conservative’ Republican failure. Grade RINO = ‘F’. I concur that non-existent Fed funds (Chinese yen) would be best spent shoring up the border instead of medicating, feeding, housing and educating Central American unauthorized immigrants.
Make her job part time with NO benefits.
Does she have any idea what our national debt and future liabilities are?
She’s IN the federal government… the place where the responsibility for this entire mess resides.
Instead of wasting everyone’s time proposing a bill to shuffle around which taxpayer bucket the cost of illegal immigration is going to come out, perhaps it’d be more helpful to propose legislation that would actually be aimed at “fixing” the problem?
But, oh yeah…I remember…. she’s one of those politicians that’s eager to simply legalize them all entirely… as soon as everybody can get past Election Day and get back to not having the immediate, uncomfortable pressure of having to answer to voters.
Also, how long does she expect this “new government program” to continue on once she and her pals pass out legal status to all the illegal immigrants? Why would the federal government pay the states “more” money then, to educate and incarcerate and provide services to the now-legal residents?
This is laughable – it’s transparently a pandering to the home crowd during an election year, hoping they’ll forget her position on illegal immigration, and her embarrassing diva behavior, where she swings wildly from contempt to indifference towards the people of her district.
(Why oh why do those mean people out there not “get it”, and just let her do exactly what “her boss” in DC is telling her to do!!! awwwww) 🙂
Why not simply enact and enforce illegal immigration laws at the State level and we wouldn’t incur these costs to begin with. Too simple I suppose.
