NCGOP: ”I pledge allegiance to The Mittster …”

I swear, the mental giants in the NCGOP hierarchy are TRYING to pick a fight when one is really not needed.

Activists, reacting to  our earlier report about the proposed resolution pledging loyalty to Mitt Romney, have been calling NCGOP HQ in Raleigh seeking clarification.

One of our readers who called in to state GOP HQ reported to us:

”The folks at state party headquarters say this resolution is NO BIG DEAL because Romney is the only one on the ballot.  What hogwash.  Santorum, Gingrich and Paul were all on the May 8th primary ballot.

There are several states that still need to have their primaries.  Romney is NOT the nominee — not until the national  convention says so in Tampa.  We are still in the middle of a presidential primary.  Party rules are CLEAR about the party taking sides in a primary.  Change the wording of the resolution — delete Romney and add ‘Republicans’ or ‘free market principles’ or ‘conservatism’, and you’re good.”

My take on the whole thing is THIS:  Why do you need this pledge of allegiance?  Are things so bad that you have to get activists at the state party convention swear an oath of allegiance?

The establishment made a huge, heavy-handed deal out of demanding unity during the May 8th primary.  This has a totalitarian, big government feel to it.  As a conservative, I don’t like having some central authority telling me what to think, and what to do.

Deep-six this resolution, and focus on promoting a platform of ideas that pulls us out of this economic tailspin.
