#ncga: A GOODNIGHT for a DOLLAR
Being seen talking to — or even looking at — Mark Villee can get you screamed at or threatened these days. It can be hazardous to your professional / political (and, maybe, PERSONAL) health.
Reports are coming over the transom left and right from people who are being harangued and harassed by state Rep. Nelson Dollar or thugs affiliated with him for the, um, unpardonable sins of standing near, smiling at, or speaking to Villee — Dollar’s primary opponent this year.
Ol’ Nelson’s main line of attack on Villee? That he’s the tool of a filthy rich guy trying to buy a legislative seat. (Raleigh businessman and big conservative donor Bob Luddy has publicly targeted Dollar for defeat.)
The problem with that? In 2004, Dollar was recruited by a filthy rich guy named Art Pope to primary incumbent Republican state Rep. David Miner. (Apparently, Mr. Miner was not behaving in a sufficiently conservative manner for the deep-pocketed Mr. Pope. Sound familiar?) Aaah, what goes around comes around. What was OK 12 years ago is apparently NOT OK now.

hosted by Jim Goodnight, THE RICHEST MAN IN NORTH CAROLINA.
And, you may notice, the Duke of Cleveland himself is the special guest of honor.
While Luddy speaks of being motivated solely by the desire for conservative leadership in state government, one could argue that — considering the track record — the Goodnights are motivated by the desire for political influence and favors. They play both sides of the political fence.
Unless I’m mistaken this year is 2016, and the invitation reads “2015.” Some incompetent liberal must have drawn up the invite.
Your heading sounds like really cheap prostitution, but I guess that is a good approximation of the GOP establishment leadership of the NC House. They are little more than rent boys for the special interests. They remind me of Jim Black, Richard Morgan, and Marc Basnight.
When can we kick them out and get some principled Republicans running the show instead? The grassroots is sick of phonies like Moore, Lewis, Dollar, Jeter, Saine, etc.
resilient little bugger isn’t he? What are you angry with him for. The Goodnights like Nelson. So do a lot of people. I know a lot of these angry guys are high on oil and low on Solar. These are the guys who screamed about tax credits for renewables and literally rolled their eyes on the House floor when they got called out for putting free money in the budget for the oil and gas industry. Personally I think its a good idea, but you cant have it both ways…
Oil is bad and coal is worse. We need to raise electric rates a lot if we are going to save the Polar Bears. Wind and solar is how we do it. The end result will be as President Obama has said, that ”electric rates will necessarily skyrocket”.
Those oil and gas guys are pikers. They got next to nothing from the General Assembly. They really are not very good at buying politicians. Our hard core environmental movement does much better. We bought your two big time progressive Republican consultants, Dee Stewart and Paul Shumaker, and that gave us lots of access to some greedy GOP legislators who will do anything for money, like Nelson Dollar.
Thanks to progressive Republicans willing to sell their souls, we saved the renewable energy mandate, so that we can still force NC consumers to buy the much more expensive wind and solar power. Who cares if it jacks up their power bills. Why should redneck peons be able to afford air conditioning anyway?
We lost on the subsidies for renewable energy. But at least we got the ”safe harbor” bill that allows us to keep the dollars rolling in for a while, almost a billion of your taxpayers dollars extra, as a matter of fact, according to your department of revenue. It is much better that this money is going to our solar friends pockets instead of things like roads and schools where it otherwise would probably have been wasted.
So, yes, Nelson Dollar is a big hero to us progressives. He has done a lot to carry out President Obama’s green energy policies in North Carolina.
