Morning Consult, a national political website, conducted a months-long survey of 75,000 voters in all 50 states. Here’s what they found:
Voters take a dim view of just about everything that happens in Washington, D.C., and few believe the country is headed in the right direction. But those same voters have a much better opinion of officials who govern their own states.
A comprehensive survey of more than 75,000 voters in all 50 states, conducted over several months by Morning Consult, shows 34 of the nation’s governors have approval ratings of 50 percent or higher, and 16 governors have approval ratings over 60 percent. Governors in only ten states have higher disapproval ratings than approval ratings, the survey found.
Leading the pack is Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker, a Republican who won election in 2014. Nearly three quarters, 74 percent, of Massachusetts voters say they approve of the job Baker is doing, while just 14 percent say they disapprove.
About two-thirds of voters in four other states approve of the job their Republican governors are doing. South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard (R), Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R), North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple (R) and Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval (R) all have approval ratings north of 66 percent.
Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton (D) and West Virginia Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin (D) have the highest approval ratings of any Democratic governor; 62 percent of voters in both states say they approve of the job their governor is doing.
On the other end of the spectrum, just 26 percent of Kansas voters say they approve of Gov. Sam Brownback’s (R) job performance. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R), Connecticut Gov. Dan Malloy (D) and Maine Gov. Paul LePage (R) — all of whom have faced months, or years, of negative headlines at home — have approval ratings under 40 percent.
Republicans currently control 31 governor’s mansions, compared with just 18 held by Democrats (Alaska Gov. Bill Walker is not affiliated with either party), and in part because of that, Republicans account for both the most and least popular governors. The seven governors with the highest approval ratings are all Republicans, and eight of the nine governors with the lowest ratings are Republicans.
While only a small percentage of Americans approve of the job Congress is doing, the average governor’s approval rating is a healthy 54 percent. An average of 34 percent disapproved.

So, how does Gov. Pat measure up in this survey? A survey of 2,512 North Carolina voters had a 51% approval, 36% disapproval split on him and his job performance thus far. (Margin of Error: +-2 percent.) His numbers are slightly off the national average of 54-34.
Let’s compare him to South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley. A survey of 1,174 Palmetto State voters found her with a 60% favorable, 33% unfavorable rating.
Gov, Pat McCrory faces the voters again in November 2016.
Some of the latest actions of the Gov will certainly raise his approval. (ie: H318- Protect NC Workers Act and the refugee refusal to obama)

This might help his approval rating on a very short horizon, but as more people realize that the refugees are trying to escape war and terrorists that the US created (yes, the US helped arm, train, and fund the radical terrorists to topple Assad) then this kneejerk reaction by McCrory and other governors will be seen as an act of politically motivated cowardice. He’s playing to the ignorant and bigoted for votes and it will backfire.
His unyielding support for the corruption surrounding the I77 HOT lane project will be his undoing.
Polls show that the American people overwhelmingly do not want these Muslim migrants allowed into our country. There is good reason for that, given the involvement of some of them in terrorism in Europe. Our government’s first duty is to protect the American people.
Opposing the influx of these Muslim migrants has been a vote winner in Europe, even before the mass migration and the terrorism, and it will be here. Look at Trump, for example. In France even before the mass migration and the terrorism, Marine LePen of the staunchly anti-immigration National Front was leading in the polls for president of France. The staunchly anti-immigration Law and Justice Party just swept the presidential and parliamentary elections in Poland, again even before the Paris terrorism, and anti-immigration parties have also made big gains this year in Denmark, Switzerland, and Austria, and are leading in the polls for the next parliamentary election in Sweden.
Governor McCrory is on the right path here. I wish he would issue an executive order prohibiting state agencies from cooperating in any way with the feds on this, like Governor Jindal of Louisiana has.

Well, the playing to “bigots” part is certainly out in left field, but it’s hard to argue with the toll roads being a soft spot in McCrory’s armor.
