Heritage Action vs. Richard Burr: (Showdown at the Twitter Corral?)

That feisty bunch at Heritage Action has been shooting with both barrels at The Tar Heel State’s US Senators.  Heritage Action often gets dismissed as a GOP group, but their people are giving Republican Richard Burr as much — if not more — HELL as Democrat Kay Hagan. North Carolina-based Heritage Action leaders took Hagan to task in a Twitter town hall she hosted.   Those same activists are frustrated with Burr, the Republican, for  his pro-gun control votes and what they see as an overall lack of conservative leadership on his part.  Heritage Action issued a challenge to…

It’s not about Rs vs. Ds. It’s statism vs. freedom.

[H]ow on earth could an Obama-liberal be one of the four Republican Leaders in the State House? That’s a question longtime campaign consultant Carter Wrenn asked in a recent blog post.   Carter sounds like a lot of people I hear these days.  They equate being a Republican with being a conservative and opposing all things Democrat, Obama and big government.  These days, being conservative and being Republican are far too often mutually exclusive.   Consider this.  The Ripon Society is a group of Republicans who want to rid the GOP of its conservative influence.  They are what are…

On The Hill, the rats are jumping from the sinking U.S.S. ObamaCare …

The Politico — hardly a right-wing rag — has broken a story about a bipartisan group of politicians seeking to exempt themselves and their staffs from the impending implementation of ObamaCare: Congressional leaders in both parties are engaged in high-level, confidential talks about exempting lawmakers and Capitol Hill aides from the insurance exchanges they are mandated to join as part of President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul, sources in both parties said. The talks — which involve Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), the Obama administration and other top lawmakers…

Heritage Action activists zinged Kay Hagan on Twitter, now turning up the heat on Burr?

Some Wilmington-area activists with Heritage Action were ringleaders in the effort to hijack US Senator Kay Hagan’s Twitter town hall.  They peppered her with uncomfortable topics ranging from ObamaCare to gun control.  Now, it appears these conservatives are turning their attention to Hagan’s colleague, Republican Richard Burr. The Winston-Salem Republican has been quite cozy with his Democrat colleague from Greensboro.  They’ve travelled around the state holding joint events.  Burr even joined Hagan recently in voting FOR cloture to allow a vote on background checks for handgun purchases.    That fact — plus Burr’s prior pledge to stand strong against ANY…

Kay Hagan: Out of touch with NC on guns, gays, ObamaCare, and …

I was always under the impression that people elect you to the Senate so that you can give voice to THEIR concerns in Washington.  Kay Hagan got elected from North Carolina, but she’s put together a voting record that would earn her senator-for-life status in Massachusetts. In May 2012, North Carolinians approved an amendment to the state constitution, by 61 to 29 percent, stating that marriage in North Carolina involves ONE MAN and ONE WOMAN.  So, how does Senator Sock Puppet ™ react?  She decides to come out publicly FOR gay marriage.  Both Hagan and her GOP colleague Richard Burr…

Burr & Hagan, Toomey-Manchin, and that can of worms known as ‘background checks’

Well, our two US Senators have thrown in with the Ruling Class effort to chip away at our Second Amendment rights.   Kay Hagan (D) and Richard Burr-McCain-Graham (R?) voted for cloture on the grand compromise on gun control put forth by West Virginia’s Joe Manchin (D) and Pennsylvania’s Pat Toomey (R).  Instead of standing firm and reminding the masses about their rights under The Constitution, Hagan and Burr joined the stampede for fawning approval from the mainstream media, which has been milking the Newtown, Conn.  school shooting for ALL IT’S WORTH.   You expected this from Hagan.  But Burr — not…

Renee Ellmers & Richard Burr think government needs MORE of your money

We’re in the middle of a godawful economic quagmire.  Record unemployment.  Increased regulation.  Anemic economic growth.  An impending economic disaster called ObamaCare.  The expiration of lower federal income tax rates.  An increase in the state’s unemployment withholding rate.   Now, some members of Congress — led by alleged tea partier Renee Ellmers (NC-2) and US Senator Richard Burr  — have pushed through a bill allowing government tax collectors greater access to the revenues of online businesses. The alleged conservative party has ditched all that talk about spending cuts and is aiding and abetting the expansion of the federal…

While Rand filibusters for freedom, Burr gets wined and dined by Little Barry

After weeks and months of watching congressional Republicans roll over like submissive pups, it was refreshing to see the filibuster led by Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky.  Paul led an interesting discussion about the utter disregard for The Constitution by Little Barry and his friends.  His effort was supported enthusiastically by at least a half dozen other senators, including Tim Scott (R-SC) — picking up right where his predecessor Jim DeMint left off.   Wait.  You ask: “Where were our other two elected Republicans, Lindsey Graham and Richard Burr?”   Why, they were at their usual positions — at…

US Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas): filling the void left by Jim DeMint, Jesse Helms?

The junior senator from Texas has got The New York Times in a tizzy.  Barbara Boxer is mad at him, as is Lindsey Graham.  Ted Cruz is making ALL the right enemies, as far as I’m concerned.  Cruz JUST got to DC, and he is turning the place on its head.  You know you are really getting on the lefties’ last nerve when they start including your name and that of the late Senator Joseph McCarthy in the same sentence.  Pay attention, Mr. Burr.  Mr. Cruz will show you HOW IT’S DONE.  For 30 years, our state was blessed…

Senator Burr: It’s all about ME

North Carolina’s senior senator was recently featured in The Charlotte Observer pontificating on his personal ambitions within the world’s  “greatest deliberating body”: Sen. Richard Burr says not to count him out of the race for the Senate Republicans’ second most powerful job. The Winston-Salem Republican is largely considered the underdog in the whip race. Burr said he heard the same doubts in the 1990s. “It may be accurate, but they said the same thing about me when I ran for Congress; that there was no way,” he said. “If I had not been willing to…
