Hartsell sentence completes NC campaign finance law’s transformation into a BIG FAT JOKE

Legislators like to complain about how little they get paid.  But check out some of these campaign finance reports these guys file with the state board of elections.  Haircuts.  Rent. Dry-cleaning.  High-dollar dinners. Overseas and domestic travel.  Clothing. Campaign operation expenses in years when they have NO OPPOSITION.  And the lying contained therein!  I am surprised there aren’t more “honorables” walking around Jones Street bearing burn marks from lightning strikes.   As a parent, if you really want your kids to not do something, you establish a clearly formidable deterrent.  In criminal law, if you really don’t want someone to…

Fletcher Hartsell: GUILTY !!!

Cabarrus County’s notorious bearded RINO has entered some guilty pleas in federal court:  Former North Carolina Senator Fletcher Hartsell, who represented Cabarrus County in the legislature for decades, pleaded guilty to two counts of filing false tax returns and one count of mail fraud. The plea agreement was filed on Friday afternoon, five months after the first of two federal indictments were handed down against Hartsell. He faced a total of 28 federal charges; the result of two different indictments from a grand jury. The federal investigation into Hartsell began at the recommendation of the North Carolina State Board of Elections,…

#ncga: Feds INDICT Fletcher Hartsell

The other shoe has dropped.  A Cabarrus County senator has a federal indictment to go along with his state indictment on campaign finance violations.  If you recall, Hartsell had reported paying for a lot of stuff on his campaign report, with campaign funds, that really really really sounded like personal expenses. This latest development has to have SOME PEOPLE around Jones Street a bit nervous.  I mean, all of this has to really be hitting close to home for SOME PEOPLE.  Gosh.  Paying rent, out of campaign funds, to a company YOU OWN.  Paying yourself, with campaign funds, for working…

American politics: A stinking cesspool where rules and laws are meant for the little, less-connected people

My thoughts about the FBI director’s press conference on Hillary’s email server?  He looked like a guy who was told to go out there and do what he’s told if he knows what’s good for him. If you listened to him carefully, and read between the lines, you actually heard him say: ‘I think this is a farce and a travesty, but I can’t do a thing about it.’ The facts pretty clearly paint a picture that Hillary Clinton used her position as Secretary of State to sell information to interested parties in exchange for BIG $$$ for her and…

#ncga: Bearded RINO indicted!

State senator Fletcher Hartsell is having a case of The Mondays on Tuesday:  Fletcher Harsell, a state senator from Concord, was indicted on Tuesday by a Wake County grand jury on allegations that he signed false campaign finance reports. The 69-year-old Republican turned himself in midday at the Wake County magistrate’s office. He is charged with three counts of certifying a campaign finance document as correct, while knowing it was not correct.[…] Ok, if Fletch got popped for THAT, I wonder what the courthouse crowd must think of, oh, $19000 worth of suits, condo mortgages, or a candidate paying himself…

#ncga: Solar subsidies foe shooting for Senate seat

There are not many tears being shed over the eminent departure of Fletcher Hartsell (RINO-Cabarrus) from Senate District 36.  He’s had a long career filled with scandal and collaboration with the Democrats.   There’s a crowded field seeking to replace Hartsell.  But ONE member of the field should really catch the attention of Charlotte gazillionaire Jay Faison and his coterie of solar goons.  Paul Newton, retired president of Duke Energy-North Carolina, was an outspoken critic of the state’s renewable energy portfolio and its accompanying mandates during his time at the utility.  Here he is from 2014:  Affluent North Carolina residents…

#ncga: A RINO retreats

It appears that the bearded RINO will not be lumbering around the North Carolina Senate chamber in 2016 after all.  We wrote earlier about how, um, *classy* it is to file for reelection while you’re under investigation by state and federal prosecutors.  Reality must have set in for Cabarrus County’s Fletcher Hartsell.  The county board of elections confirmed that Hartsell had withdrawn from the senate race late Wednesday evening, citing that tried and true reason of wanting “to spend more time with the family” — typically synonymous with trying to save oneself from scandal.  (On the other hand, I guess rooming with…

#ncpol: Things that make you go HMMMMMM.

The state board has unveiled a neat new search feature that allows you to browse campaign filings by TYPE. The search engine allows you to go through all kinds of clickable PDF files to see the exact images.  Cool stuff.  Though, my experiments with it gave me cause for concern.  First, in June of this year, it was reported that the state board had voted to refer state senator Fletcher Hartsell’s campaign finance case to state and federal prosecutors.  As of today, the state board’s site offers no evidence of any correspondence documenting said referral.  (We DID find this July letter…

#ncga: Want to make Fletcher Hartsell go away? Get behind THIS GUY.

Cabarrus County conservatives have officially started their hunt for the elusive bearded RINO.  He’s tricky — he can change his appearance, looking like a Republican while acting like a Democrat.  The hunting party may have an advantage this year. It appears the bearded RINO is weighed down (possibly crippled?) by a criminal probe.  Parish Moffitt of Concord stepped into the spotlight today as the latest champion seeking to bring down controversial, scandal-ridden state senator Fletcher Hartsell.  A campaign spokesman provided this bio info on Moffitt to us: Parish Moffitt is a US Navy veteran who currently works as a Flight…

#ncpol #ncga: Filing for reelection while the subject of a criminal probe. (Classy.)

Yessirree. The King RINO himself — state senator Fletcher Hartsell — has filed for reelection.  When we last heard from ol’ Fletch, it was June and he was getting himself RE-ferred to a prosecutor by the state board of elections.   Outgoing state board chairman Josh Howard summed up the referral decision nicely: […] “Some of the things in there should make anyone angry,” Howard said of the 800 page report that provided the basis of Wednesday’s hearing. “Campaign finance disclosures were wholly inaccurate or entirely opaque. At that time, if you’re not angry, you’re not paying attention. The tie…
