NC-03: More vultures?

While incumbent congressman Walter Jones recovers from an injury and the resulting surgery, a number of Republicans are already jockeying to replace him. We’ve heard from perennial candidate Phil Law.  Now, state Rep. Phil Shepard (R-Onslow) is stepping out there publicly: Law and Sheppard would appear to be fighting over the same base of supporters in the Jacksonville area. For what it’s worth, the name of Jonathan Brooks — a longtime GOP campaign consultant and “government relations” expert — is also floating around political circles inside and outside the Raleigh beltline  as a possible candidate for NC-03.  Brooks has worked…

NC-03: Walter Jones A-OK following surgery. Vultures disappointed. (Film at 11.)

Tongues were wagging all up and down the Third Congressional District as word spread about  congressman Walter  Jones being rushed to the hospital the other night. (We’re hearing reports about folks already announcing candidacies and lining up support to replace Jones — who just got reelected in November. ) Well, Tom Lamprecht — a popular radio host over on the coast — has put the kibosh on rumors of Jones’s demise.  Lamprecht reported on his show tonight that Jones fell in his home and broke his hip.  He was rushed to the hospital via ambulance, and went through surgery to repair…

NC-03: A few questions for Phil Law

Walter Jones is just a few month into his final term in office.  A lot of names are being bandied about as candidates to replace him in 2020 — 2018 opponent Scott Dacey.  NCGOP vice-chairman Michele Nix, NC Rep. Phil Shepard, NC Rep. Mike Speciale, NC Rep. Greg Murphy and perennial candidate Phil Law. Law, who finished second in the 2018 primary for the GOP nod in the Third,  sent out a release today indicating he’s getting a jump on that whole crowd.  He plans to announce his 2020 candidacy tonight at the Onslow County GOP meeting in Jacksonville. Law,…

NC-09: NCSBE chairman’s kin PAID $$$$ to campaign for Dan McCready?

NC state elections board chairman Joshua Malcolm already has an ethical dilemma on his hands —  chairing an investigation into campaign dealings in his home county involving a political machine he has long defended and supported.  The current hubbub over the Ninth Congressional District got started via a concern registered by Malcolm.  Well, campaign finance reports filed by the North Carolina Democratic Party indicate that quite possibly at least TWO of Malcolm’s close family members were on the party’s campaign “payroll.”  They were paid via the party’s “federal” account — which is meant to be used on federal races.  …

DC tells pro-border security Americans to ‘Stuff it.’

The DC establishment is working feverishly to avoid the feared government shut-down.  *Can’t tick off The Washington Post and The New York Times, can we?*  (I wish they felt the same about us little people out in fly-over country.)  Republicans STILL allegedly control Capitol Hill.  But they can’t seem to cough up $5 billion to kick-start President Trump’s border wall.  But they CAN find $10.6 billion in foreign aid to send to Mexico and a number of other Central American countries. On top of that, we have Democrat members of Congress escorting members of the so-called refugee caravan across our…

NC-09: Robeson GOP says ENOUGH.

Union County, one of the members of the Ninth Congressional District, has already made its wishes known about the political kerfluffle over the uncertified congressional race.  A second member county, Robeson County, now has its Republican leaders sounding off in the form of an official resolution: Resolution of the Robeson County Republican Party WHEREAS,  the Robeson County Board of Elections has certified the results of both the 2018 Primary & General Elections for the 9thCongressional District; and WHEREAS, The North Carolina State Board of Elections has refused to certify the results for the 9thCongressional District; and WHEREAS, every political race…

NC-09: #ncga’s sen. Ralph Hise joins the stupidity

If IFs and BUTs were candy and nuts, OH what a party we’d have. Here’s a statement from Senator Ralph Hise (R-Mitchell), the senate’s elections guru and counterpart to Rep. David Lewis: The GOP “evidence” for calling for a (1) new primary and (2) new election in the Ninth Congressional District is FREAKIN’  New York Times reporting !!!!!!! Let’s count how many times “alleged” and “if” are used in the above statement. The primary election has been certified.  It flies in the face of state law — the constitution — to throw out the primary and have another one. No…

NC-09: “MEDIA reports”? (Seriously?)

In their lust to just make the whole NC-09 kerfuffle GO AWAY, Raleigh Republicans are passing legislation of questionable constitutionality and embracing the reporting of the driveby media. Never before has the lack of leadership in the NCGOP been so apparent.  You’ve got hundreds of egos running around, running their mouths.  Meanwhile, in the Ninth District, reputations are being destroyed, the will of the people is being ignored, and the state’s congressional delegation is left in limbo. […] Under current state law, if the board calls for a new election it would be a re-do of the general election contest…

#nc-09: Even MORE DEM mischief in Robeson County

The hits just keep coming from my home county.  (My home folks don’t do much well.  But when it comes to screwing around with elections, some folks down there do world-class work.)  We told you earlier about county commissioner Jerry Stephens and his sketchy get-out-the-vote PAC.  Stephens got paid about $14,000 from Democrat DA candidate Matt Scott in the general election.  Scott, of course, got money from the state Democrat Party which likely made its way into the hands of Stephens and others. Stephens described the work of his group as “GOTV” – get out the vote — just like…

Wayne Goodwin needs to shut up. (Seriously.)

There’s nothing like listening to a lecture on ethics and good behavior from a confirmed sleaze.  But that’s what the driveby media is subjecting us to.  And state Democrat Party chairman Wayne Goodwin is more than happy to oblige them.   Goodwin is all over social media and the driveby media questioning Mark Harris’s integrity and strongly suggesting he was okay with criminal conduct in his recently completed congressional race. Granted, he is the state Democrat chairman.  His job is  to attack Republicans.  (The job of the state GOP chairman is to apparently take LOTS OF NAPS.) But while we…
