North Carolina Democrats were counting on him as their next big star.  Dan Blue III, son of former House speaker and current senator Dan  Blue, has chaired the Wake County Democratic Party and had been a regular fixture on NC Spin.  He was the Democrat nominee in the 2016 state treasurer’s race.  There was talk of grooming him for bigger and better things. Well, that apparently came screeching to a halt on Friday afternoon.  According to Wake County authorities, Blue was arrested at 1:40 AM on Friday for driving under the influence. #ncga: Bob Steinburg’s “greatest” hits

Here at The Haymaker, we’re all about making sure folks are well-informed about the folks serving them in Raleigh and DC — as well as those trying to do so.  Over in the 1st Senate district, Bill Cook is retiring and Edenton Republican Rep. The Speciale matter

It made me sick to my stomach to read about and hear about the arrest of Michael Speciale, Jr. this morning.  First off — the allegations against him are horrific.  (We still believe in the old innocent-until-proven guilty thing here, so we will withhold judging him until after the justice system has had its say.)  Second — I hate to see his dad, state Rep. Michael Speciale, dragged through the mud by the media and political opponents.  We’re fans of Speciale’s work in the legislature.  We can’t begin to imagine the heartache these allegations are causing him and his family….

Hold the giggling re: Cannon bust. Sounds like this story is not finished.

I’ve detected a bit of smugness on the part of establishment Republicans in the wake of Charlotte mayor Patrick Cannon’s arrest by the FBI on corruption charges.  NCGOP was quick to hop on the anti-Cannon bandwagon.  If you read the complaint filed against Cannon by federal authorities, he was an unexpected BONUS catch.  The feds were looking into other Charlotte area targets when Cannon walked into their sights.  The federal complaint details how Cannon bragged about his ties to The White House, as well as Charlotte pols like Gov.
