Being a politician AND keeping your stories straight IS HARD!
Renee Ellmers is a busy lady these days — riding around in John Boehner’s back pocket, getting all of those promotions, and all. She’s being mentioned as a potential challenger to Kay Hagan. Miss Harnett County is also spending a lot of time telling ANYONE WHO WILL LISTEN how much she loves Jesus. (See her mass-mailed scripture-laden Christmas card from a few months ago?)
During her re-election campaign, Renee ran a pretty effective commercial touting herself as “a fighter for traditional values.” Never mind that she spoke out publicly against the marriage amendment to the state constitution — which passed with an overwhelming two-thirds majority from North Carolina voters.
I went back to take a look at her campaign web site, which includes this interesting text:
I am pro-life. I believe in the sanctity of human life and that life begins at conception. As a mom, Christian and nurse, my beliefs have deepened through experience. I’ve held the hands of newborn infants. I’ve held the hands of elderly patients in the last moments of their lives. I have been blessed to have had such experiences and through them, I have gained the wisdom of knowing that every life is a precious gift from God and it is not for us to judge its worth, deny its beginning or determine its end.
I am pro-family. I believe that marriage is between one man and one woman. Here are a few bills I have supported to protect traditional marriage:
Bills I Voted For:
- H.AMDT.573 – Huelskamp Amendment to H.R. 2219 (prohibits using funds to allow chaplains to perform same-sex marriages.
- H.AMDT.546 – Foxx Amendment to H.R. 2219 (prohibits funds to be used in contravention of DOMA)
Bills I Support:
- H.CON.RES.25 – Expressing the sense of Congress regarding Obama’s discontinuing the defense of DOMA
- H.R. 3828 – Military Religious Freedom Protection Act
- H.Res.143 – Directing Speaker to take any and all actions necessary to defend DOMA
Well, all that sounds nice, but HOW does that square with her membership on the congressional advisory board of The Ripon Society — which includes ”social tolerance” as part of its mission? ”Social tolerance” sounds good but really is a term used by the political establishment to define the act of dismissing all of that morality stuff the church people think is so important. (Traditional marriage, anti-abortion, etc. , etc.)
SO — Are “we” into “traditional family values” or ‘social tolerance’ ? Let us know which one, Renee.
If Renee and Tillis both run for Senate, they will divide the establishment RINO vote, and give us s good chance to nominate a conservative.
Maybe. Tillis is “back home” Establishment and she’s “Up there” Establishment, he’ll probably have the advantage. But given the concerns expressed by the good folks in the Third Congressional district and many others concerning the state of our “leadership”, maybe folks like Greg Brannon will get a second look by the rank-and-file.
Hey, Renee can be all thing to all people, how dare you point out facts, they are inconvenient!
Well, now I see that she is one of nine squishy ”Republicans” who are on the Club for Growth’s target list for primaries in 2014. I guess we have to congratulate Renegade Renee for making that list.
