Moore Republican Women open fire on NRA’s PAC
One of the state’s largest and most active Republican women’s groups is once again stepping up to speak its collective mind about the current primary season. Earlier, they criticized the NC Senate Republican leadership for meddling in the Senate District 25 race between Michelle Lexo and Tom McInnis.
Now they’re taking on a bigger fish — The National Rifle Association’s Political Victory Fund. Moore Republican Women spokesperson Kay Wildt released a letter she fired off to the gun group’s political action committee:
[…] “The NRA is entitled to endorse whomever they wish. In the case of NRA’s endorsement of Tom McInnis over Michelle Lexo in the NC Senate District 25 race. I believe Michelle Lexo was poorly treated and done a grave injustice.
I expected the NRA to be above reproach. Yet it gave Michelle Lexo a “D” rating, knowing that she is an NRA member, a concealed carry permit holder, and a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment.
The NRA besmirched a good woman and unilaterally assassinated her character, her integrity, and her support of the Second Amendment. And her incumbent opponent used NRA’s blasphemy to send thousands of mailers with scurrilous charges against Michelle. How can anyone have faith in its so-called ratings?
After receiving the McInnis mailers with the NRA endorsements, one person of my acquaintance was convinced (1) not to make the generous donation to the NRA that he planned and (2) definitely not to renew his membership. (I will not renew mine.)
The NRA materially damaged its own reputation here in Moore County, North Carolina with those of us who have worked with Michelle Lexo and know her to be a principled leader and excellent elected official. We are confident that she will win the election, and she will be an outstanding NC State Senator.[…]
This is not the only case of the NRA trashing a Republican primary candidate possessing stellar conservative credentials who just happens to be running against an incumbent legislator.
I’ve spoken with officials from four other legislative campaigns — independent of Lexo — about the NRA ratings. All four campaigns feature candidates who are down the line conservatives that could earn The Haymaker’s endorsement. Yet, these campaigns curiously did not receive an NRA survey. And they had to find out about their “poor” ratings from the media, their opponents, or the NRA website. How can you be poorly rated when the raters don’t bother to communicate with you?
This is more about the NRA accommodating political bosses in Raleigh and DC than protecting the 2nd Amendment.
I quit paying attention to NRA endorsements when they endorsed Thom Tillis in his Senate primary when there were 3 better candidates. And I am a NRA member only because my gun club requires it.
They are the one organization that could have stopped the Kagan and Sotomayor nominations in their tracks and they didn’t even try. That was my walking away moment.
The NRA rating is a flawed system! They gave Harry Reid an A rating, for goodness sake! Their scores have nothing to do with a candidate’s worth.
BEAT THE LYING GOOD OLE BOYS IN RALEIGH & VOTE MICHELLE LEXO FOR NC SENATE!
NRA needs to re-think its rating system. It automatically defaults in favor of incumbents. Someone above pointed out the A rating for Harry Reid, which should tell us all we need to know. The atmospherics surrounding this over-weighted element of the NRA position is proving detrimental to their credibility. In fact, it’s become downright Swamp-like. Michelle Lexo: From Moore County, for Moore County.
The NRA has a long history of prostituting itself to incumbents and to the establishment. This is very sad, given its very critical mission, but it means you cannot trust their endorsements.
For federal endorsements, I look to Gun Owners of America, a 2nd Amendment organization founded by a former NRA board member who resigned from the NRA board due to it’s rotten endorsement policies. GOA does not whote to either incumbents or the establishment. They endorse the most dependable pro-gun candidates. The National Association for Gun Rights is another great 2nd Amendment group.
At the state level, I look to Grassroots North Carolina, the dependable pro-gun organization and the most active one in the state.
Lies, lies, and more lies! Talk about desperate. Here is the latest. Who is paying for calls to voters asking two questions? The first question, “Who are you voting for,” second question, “Would it make a difference to know that Michelle Lexo is against the 2nd Amendment?” Michelle Lexo carries concealed, she is a member of the NRA, she reveres the Constitution and all its amendments, especially the 2nd. Enough of the viciousness!

Who is McInnis’ consultant? Is it Dee Stewart or Paul Shumaker? They are known for last minute lies. Stewart is a particular fan of robocalls because he owns robocall equipment.
The fact that a candidate is using a sllimeball like Stewart or Shumaker as a consultant is a very good reason to not vote for that candidate.
Doing this sort of dishonest crap in a primary is what loses you general election votes from Republicans.
We must not only hold candidates , elected officials to a constitutional oath. We must hold all PACs and so called liberty, conservative and constitutional groups, ei Freedomworks, NRA, Right to Life etc. to those same standards. Judge their actions not their words to theses standards: The foundational principles of our Declaration and the chains of our Constitution. Most importantly, we has individuals , must be held to those same standards. Or, else we are going to be continuing to be ruled by the whims of man, instead of a society based on God’s Natural Law. Allowing the parties to have primary winner at 30% instead of 50%, is just another example.
The American Experiment is based on individual liberty, private property, a true free market based on a gold standard ( its in the constitution Article I section 10!) non aggression, free association and the the best defense. That’s is a society where the individual is superior to the collective, the where society is truly at its best.
The answer is Federalism, where the states are the fourth leg, to chain federal government to their enumerated functions. The X Amendment is the cornerstone of the constitution. Those are not my words , that’s Thomas Jefferson.
The best part , the solution is in the mirror! That is why I am so excited about the future. We has individuals are created in God’s image- let’s live like we were meant to be- Free!
