Tillis bill ANOTHER ‘Gang of Eight’-style amnesty scam

THAT is the verdict that is coming in:

[…]Immigration experts like Mark Krikorian with the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) have taken to social media to call out Tillis’ legislation as just another Sen. John McCain-style “Gang of Eight” amnesty bill.

The “Gang of Eight” legislation was shut down after backlash from immigration groups, voters and pushback from Senators like Trump’s pick for Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, who argued that illegal immigrants should be deported for their law-breaking, rather than being granted legalization to stay.[…]

Here are further details on Thommy-T’s love offering to his 2014 donors:

A new immigration reform plan by Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) would include legalization and amnesty for the over 11 million living in the United States.

Tillis’ “immigration overhaul,” as The Wall Street Journal dubbed it, would serve as a new kind of “Gang of Eight” legislation, promising amnesty to illegal immigrants, which could eventually lead to a pathway to citizenship.

While Tillis’ legislation would increase “border security and toughen enforcement of immigration laws,” it would also grant amnesty, a type of immigration reform measure that Democrats have been demanding since the 1990s.

As the WSJ notes, Tillis’ amnesty bill “gives each party something that it wants,” reiterating that pairing amnesty will tougher border security could be the establishment GOP’s path towards passing comprehensive immigration reform.

Tillis’ legislation would essentially keep former President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) intact, allowing illegal immigrants who were brought to the U.S. at a young age to stay in the country legally.

“At a later stage,” lawmakers would tackle the issue of visa overstays and addressing foreign worker visas for high and low-skilled labor.

[…]

Let’s hold on to THAT, and roll on over to Article X, section 11 of the state party platform:

[…] 11. We oppose any form of amnesty for those who, by intentionally violating the immigration law, disadvantage those who have obeyed it. Granting amnesty only rewards and encourages more law breaking. […]

Party disloyalty, anyone?  Anyone?

If Tillis does, in fact, do this, then if he shows up at the NCGOP convention, he should be booed off the stage. There should be organized booing that does not let up and does not let him speak.

This is reprehensible. It is following the Obama agenda and sticking his thumb in the eye of President Trump, not to mention of most of the GOP grassroots.

While immigration is not really my main issue, it is always good to see progressive Republicans like Thom Tillis up there fighting for President Obama’s agenda and President Obama’s legacy as Tillis is for Obama’s immigration legacy.. It is a sign that Tillis will be with us on President Obama’s green legacy as well.

In a few short weeks, Thom Tillis has made three major pronouncements that went against the grain of GOP loyalists. The first involved social issues, mostly focused on HB2. The second involved his new preference to work with Democrats instead of with his own party, that at a time when Republicans have gotten the Presidency and both houses of Congress in their hands for the first time in decades. Now he has gone against the GOP platform on illegal immigration.

What is Tillis up to in all of this, which seems coordinated and intentional? Rush Limbaugh says it looks like he is manuevering to run for another office. But which? Marco Rubio proved that supporting amnesty is the kiss of death in GOP presidential primaries, so it would not be trying to set himself up to primary Trump. Amnesty is an even bigger kiss of death in a North Carolina Republican primary, so the rumors about running for governor are probably unfounded, especially since he has also crapped in his mess kit with Values Voters on his first pronouncement. Tillis’ pivot to support Mexicans over Americans might be popular for a run for President of Mexico, but he probably could not get citizenship in time to do so.

What does that leave? Tillis may be in the early stages of a gambit to seek the DEMOCRAT nomination for president. He will move slowly and cautiously to reposition himself, and these are just the early steps. Republican loyalists passing resolutions against him or booing him will just play into his game. Sometime in about two years, he will formally switch parties.

How is the best way to handle this live grenade that is Thom Tillis? Shun him but do not do it in a way that gets him publicity. Quietly fail to invite him to the state convention or indeed any GOP events.

Karl Rove did NC no favors when he spent big bucks to ram this opportunist Tillis down our throats as our Senate nominee.

What does a “Senator ” have to do to be recalled by the voters? It is time to hold them to their promises to support the party platform, or suffer consequences. The NCGOP is also at fault because they want to run with the RINOS,. Otherwise they would field candidates who would support the people of N C.

An example of how out of touch Tillis is with real people comes from a poll of 10,000 Americans commissioned by Lord Ashcroft, a major funder of the UK’s Conservative Party. The poll found that ”deporting those people illegally present in the country” was a ”top priority” for 76% of Trump voters and of 55% of all voters. The poll also found that deporting those already here was considered more of a top issue by both Trump voters and by all voters than building the wall on the Mexican border. Again, while it was a Brit who commissioned this poll, it is a poll of American voters.
