Fundraising reports can tell you a hell of a lot about how November is going to go.  Money helps you organize your efforts.  Money helps you raise your name ID.  It’s rare that the biggest bank account doesn’t make it to the winner’s circle when all is said and done on Election Eve. big money

The next round of campaign finance reports for the North Carolina races are due at the end of this month.  Hopefully, they’ll bring better news than what we have so far.  As of the end of the second quarter (June 30), Steve Troxler, Dan Forest and Dale Folwell are the only statewide GOP candidates out-raising their Democrat opponents. 

Secretary of State:  Republican Michael LaPaglia has raised $15,518 for the election cycle, and spent $10,574.84.  As of the end of June, he had $5,018.47 left in the bank. Democrat incumbent Elaine Marshall, however, reported raising $257,946.51 for the election cycle while spending $149,968.02.  As of the end of June, she had $128,115.96 in the bank.

Labor Commissioner:  Democrat challenger and former Raleigh mayor Charles Meeker reported raising $102,126.17  from March 1 through June 30.  In that same period, Republican incumbent Cherie Berry reported raising only $15,119.95.

Governor:  Democrat challenger and state attorney general Roy Cooper reported raising $5,125,249.26 between March 1 and June 30. Incumbent Republican Pat McCrory reported raising $3,173,672.98 for the same period. commoncoreforrest1ne061215c

Attorney General: Democrat Josh Stein has reported raising $2,204,266.69 for the election cycle, and spending $875,297.32.  He reports having $2,127,608.33 in the bank as of the end of June. Republican Buck Newton reports having raised $700,687.74 for the election cycle, while spending $544,183.40.  He reports having $227,751.70 in the bank as of the end of June.

Lieutenant Governor:  Democrat Linda Coleman reports raising $226,060.74 between March 1 and June 30.  Republican incumbent Dan Forest reports raising $364,348.84 during that same period.

Treasurer:  Republican Dale Folwell reported raising $431,632.65 for the election cycle, and spending $19,745.56.  That left Folwell with $418,203.67 in the bank as of June 30.  Democrat Dan Blue reported raising $285,191.03 for the cycle, while spending $125,092.14. That left Blue with $129,172.86 in the bank as of June 30.

Auditor: Incumbent Democrat Beth Wood reported raising $161,154.62 for the election cycle, while spending $114,546.75.  That left her with $49,699.85 in the bank as of downloadJune 30. Her GOP opponent, former FBI agent Chuck Stuber, reported raising $31,438.23 for the election cycle while spending $19,261.20.  That left him with $12,177.03 in the bank as of June 30.

Insurance: Republican Mike Causey reported raising $23,062 from March 1 to June 30.  For that same period, Democrat incumbent Wayne Goodwin reported hauling in $222,580.23.

DPI:  Things look a little more competitive here.  Republican challenger Mark Johnson reported  raising $15,912.43 from March 1 to June 30.  In that same period, Democrat incumbent June Atkinson reported raising $29,340.

Agriculture: Democrat challenger Walter Smith reported raising $15,705.19 from March 1 to June 30.  Republican incumbent Steve Troxler reported raising $176,290.50 during the same period.
