Boehner talks tough on Meadows move (but WHY no vote yet?)
Mark Meadows has taken over from Ted Cruz as the Washington establishment’s whipping boy. He spoke a lot of truth in the resolution he authored seeking to vacate the speaker’s chair.
Boehner and his team — and, surprisingly, a number of Meadows’s fellow conservatives — are publicly poo-poing Meadows and his resolution. The orange man himself says Meadows’s move is “no big deal.”
That statement begs the question: If it’s no big deal, why not go ahead and vote on it? That’d be a great way to shut up AND shut down Meadows. (What could Meadows and all of those Tea Partiers say if his resolution gets voted down 434-1?)
In earlier reports, Meadows said he thought the vote would happen YESTERDAY.
You know what I think? (And, of course, John Boehner *cares* about what I think.) I think Team Boehner knows it IS a big deal. They saw how many votes came up against him at the beginning of the session. Couple those with all of the Democrats, and you have disaster for the orange man.
Meadows’s strategy seems to be more aligned with the idea of gaining concessions as opposed to perpetrating a coup. But, of course, the egos in DC see it as an affront to their positions, their power, and cash flow. What Meadows is doing is what all of the Tea Party candidates SHOULD have done at the start of the session in 2011. Hold the senior members’s feet to the fire and force some changes.
Since this story broke, I’ve talked with some fellow Tea Party travelers, as well as some folks who aren’t as conservative as I am. Across the board, it’s agreed upon out here in the heartland that there is a leadership problem in the Congress and a change needs to be made. That makes it extra peculiar that all of the honorables are ready to fall on their swords for the orange man as opposed to representing the wishes of their people back home. (Of course, we know they’re acting out of concern for keeping the cash spigot flowing.)
There is a lot of arm-twisting and intimidation going on behind the scenes. There are a lot of people accumulating wealth and power and influence thanks to Boehner being where he is right now. And they’re not about to make changes that could change that situation. Not, at least, without a fight.
Hopefully, Meadows will stay strong and resist the heat that will be put on him. One of the most powerful weapons we have to use against the Hill? Public opinion. How do you think Ronald Reagan got his historic tax cuts through a Democrat Congress? Reagan communicated a message loud and clear, that resonated with the people, and they responded by throwing an incumbent president out on his ass.
Professional pols tend to behave and act right when they see the mob gathering with pitchforks and lighting up the torches. Don’t let the ruling class win here. Not without one hell of a fight. It’s too important.
So say I with reference to IMPORTANT. I will go so far as to say it is of paramount importance that Boehner and McConnell both be removed now and not be reelected.
Wisdom is the compilation of correct reasoning.
Considering what is best for “we the people” I see no wisdom having been used by OUR House or Senate leadership since the 2014 election. If I am wrong will someone please set me straight.
Browny, There is no need to set you straight on this topic. You’re 100% spot on.
And remember, Walter Jones has led the charge against Boehner for several years. He deserves our support as well.
Meadows office said they were getting calls of support from all over the country. Perhaps Boehner won’t call for a vote because the reps would have to go home and face voters in their district. Most reps no longer hold town halls because they fear voters. Reps want to go home and campaign, that would be difficult to do if they voted for Johnny again when they know he is not popular with the base.
It is past time for a vote on this resolution. We the people back home sent a crystal clear message in the last election. It’s no surprise that our arrogant president figuratively gave us the finger in response to the election results, but it is really too much that our Republican leadership did, too.
What an outright disgrace that only two of our NC Republican Congressional delegation has any voice resembling an opposition party. Where are the other eight? Oh yeah, they’re not with their districts; they’re with Boehner and his cronyism.
We have the same situation in the Senate. Both McConnell and Boehner have worn out their welcome as supposed opposition leaders. What have our Republican majorities gained us? We have only betrayal to show for our election victories.
Do the vote. It’s time for everybody to put their cards on the table once and for all. It’s time for Republicans to put up or shut up.
I rather suspect that the 6th District’s Walker will get a Primary, if only because that District has a history of challengers against the immensely popular Howard Coble…..and Coble got a pass because people were not aware back then of how corrupt and ineffective the GOP leadership had become. Too bad Holding, Rouzer, and Hudson don’t have anyone stepping up against them. Here’s hoping Foxx gets her pink slip next May.
I wish we had conservatives to step forward in each Congressional District and announce that they were considering a primary challenge to the incumbent if they failed to support Meadows motion, because the GOP grassroots had had more than enough of the Obama enabler John Boehner.
BTW, I hope Pattie Curran is jumping on this in the 5th district, and Jim Duncan in the 2nd.
Yeahhhh Boehner’s gotta go. We have WAY too much important stuff to get done in preparation for the 2016 election, and having an incompetent RINO in charge of the House just won’t work. I’m pulling for Louie Gohmert, but there are PLENTY of other good, TEA PARTY choices.
Rouzer is claiming Meadows wasn’t serious and just wants to “spark a discussion”. He’s quoting The Hill.
