Pinehurst Matters? (Yeah, but so does THE TRUTH.)

There’s a small, but loud group of people making quite a commotion about this year’s village council races in Pinehurst.  They really, really, really don’t like Mayor Fiorillo (aka Queen Nancy) and really really really wanted former council member John Strickland elected mayor.  They made a lot of noise and slinged a lot of mud in 2015 — and LOST.  They’re back with a vengeance in 2017 with an official…

Campaign 2017: Golf gloves are coming OFF in Pinehurst

Things are generally very cordial here in our little corner of paradise. Rolling green fairways.  Mild weather.  Little to no crime.  Neighbors that offer a friendly ‘how-do’ when you pass by.  Local elections here are normally quiet affairs.  Folks are polite. After all, they WILL be seeing each other later at the cocktail parties around town (and on the golf course).  Things got a wee bit rough during our 2015…

Campaign 2017: Moore County

Election Day will be here before we know it.  There are some important decisions to be made at the ballot box on November 7.  Here’s our two cents on some of them: Southern Pines:  On October 7, voters cut the field down from five to four.  The four left standing are incumbent Carol Haney, Mitch Lancaster, Marsh Smith, and Daniel Kohn. Hands DOWN — the clear two choices here for…

Strange bedfellows in Moore sheriff’s race

Moore County sheriff Neil Godfrey has — to most reasonable observers — done a pretty good job running the department.  A career lawman who rose through the ranks of the SBI, Godfrey was recruited to the sheriff’s office to serve as then-sheriff Lane Carter’s second-in-command.  It’s well known that Godfrey was pretty well responsible for captaining the ship and doing the heavy-lifting at the sheriff’s office during the latter years…

Moore County Schools: Boy, are we getting SCREWED.

Granted, this story is about one of North Carolina’s 100 counties.  But something like this is likely going on in each of the other 99.   We’ve got a clueless, or complicit — not sure which is worse — board of education.  We’ve got a load of edu-crats who are perpetually boo-hooing about being cash-starved and the kids suffering.  We just went through a round of this — led by…

Moore County 2017: Comin’ out of the woodwork!

It’s always nice to see folks interested in public service.  Filing closed today on 2017’s local races, and it appears Moore County’s voters are going to have loads of candidates to sort through.  Aberdeen has two folks fighting it out for mayor, while a foursome fights it out for TWO council seats. Cameron has five people slugging it out for TWO seats. Carthage and Foxfire each have a foursome fighting…

#ncga: Moore County losing Jerry Tillman?

Randolph County’s Jerry Tillman (R) has been representing Moore County in the North Carolina Senate since the retirement and passing of Moore County native Harris Blake. Multiple sources tell us that it is now appearing — thanks to the court-ordered redistricting for legislative districts — that Tillman’s relationship with Moore County will be coming to an end.  Our most-likely new Senate representation?  The most obvious candidates would be Ronald Rabin…

As tax hike war-drums beat in Moore County, important questions go un-asked, unanswered

Two years ago, there was some serious drama and boo-hooing over the Moore County School Board’s attempt to fire superintendent Bob Grimesey. (Grimesey managed to show us a few on-camera tears, too.) Since being re-instated, Grimesey has presided over — with a supportive Greek chorus in The Pilot’s newsroom — an unprecedented disinformation-laden PR campaign that would make Saul Alinsky, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama proud. Sure, Moore County edu-crats…

Moore County: Saul Alinsky. Screaming Mommies. School funding. (And Quis is RIGHT.)

Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton would be proud of the tactics being utilized by Moore County superintendent Bob Grimesey and his subsidized six-figure salaried bureaucratic army during this year’s budget talks with the Moore County commissioners.  Teachers and students are being hauled out to civic meetings all over the county to weep and moan on cue about how they will: (1) die, (2) face certain economic ruin, or (3) shrivel…

Drowning in his OWN B.S. (The Ed Dennison story)

Thats what happened — according to one of my moles – to Moore County school board chairman Ed Dennison at Saturday’s northern Moore GOP precinct meetings. If you haven’t followed things closely here, let me recap.  Our school board is the furthest thing from watchdogs.  They are rubber-stamps sitting around waiting to approve whatever the superintendent and his coterie of six-figure-salaried assistants plop down in front of them.  None of…
