America’s per capita government debt worse than that of Greece

U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions (R-Alabama) has released some research showing that America’s per capita government debt is WORSE than that of Greece. We’re even worse off than those other European economic nightmares, Ireland and Spain. If you’ve been following the news, you know that Greece — a socialist welfare state — is fiscally bankrupt and is being ravaged by riots in the streets.   The European Union has approved a massive bailout to try and help Greece stop the fiscal and literal bleeding.  (There, but for the grace of God …. ) Keep this in mind — as we get…

WHO AM I? I’m @BOBETHERIDGE, you dummy!

The right Rev. Bobby “Boom Boom” Etheridge is making quite a splash on Twitter.  I have to admit it piqued my curiosity when someone recommended I follow @BOBETHERIDGE.  I checked it out, and immediately got suspicious.  The feed’s wallpaper is flowers with a pink background.  The REAL “Boom Boom” would never decorate ANYTHING with THAT combination.  (The feed also features a photo of “Boom Boom” assaulting some kid.) In reality, it looks like the handiwork of a conservative mischief-maker.  Nevertheless, the tweets on the feed are pretty funny.  Check it out.

NC Democrats commence Operation GET-PAT

Saddled with two sorry candidates at the top of the 2012 ticket, and an even sorrier record, The North Carolina Democrat Party is going full-bore negative on presumed GOP nominee for governor Pat McCrory.  Anything to change the subject — to distract the voters.  The Democrats teased us with a Youtube video promoting the January 3 launch of www.teammcrory.com .  So, when the big day rolled around, I browsed over to take a look at what those evil geniuses have  come up with. Well, most of the site is filled with the usual “Art-Pope-is-Satan, black helicopter, grassy knoll and magic bullet”…

MAJOR #FAIL# : GOP majority in Raleigh drops ball on proposed gas tax cap

The North Carolina Republican Party’s official web site includes a long list of things “We Believe,”  including THIS GEM: We Believe… government must practice fiscal responsibility and allow individuals to keep more of their own money they earn. Really?  Someone needs to remind those GOP legislators we rewarded with a majority in both chambers in  November 2010.  The state gas tax — third highest in the nation, 20 cents per gallon higher than Virginia’s, 22 cents higher than South Carolina’s — was increased by 3.9 cents per gallon today THANKS to the failure of the GOP majority in Raleigh to pass…

NC Dems lose lots of 18-25 year olds since 2008

North Carolina Democrats have lost nearly 40,000 registered voters, between the ages of 18-25, since 2008.  It’s been universally accepted that demographic voted overwhelming for BarryO, and was they key to his victory over John McCain.  Before the NCGOP gets too excited about this development, they need to think about a few things: North Carolina has a lot of college campuses. The study  references numbers from four years ago. Out of state students come to North Carolina for 2-4 years, typically, then go elsewhere. In 2008, the BarryO campaign had massive voter registration drives on college campuses. McCain did not…

Santa bringing Moore County a new water source?

Water has been a hot topic in recent Moore County elections.  Viable water sources are few and far between in this landlocked Sandhills county with more than its fair-share of water-guzzling golf courses.  One of my spies in county government tells me that county leaders have been talking quietly with Robbins leaders for a while about a deal involving the town’s little-used reservoir.  Election results last month in the north Moore town are likely to put this deal on a faster track. County leaders are seeking a deal where they could lease land adjacent to the reservoir from Robbins.  On…

Pinehurst Village Council: Fireworks in November?

John Marcum may have finished a distant second in this month’s mayoral race, but he is certainly not riding off quietly into the sunset.   Marcum’s community action group, Concerned Citizens of Pinehurst, is taking its concerns directly to the Pinehurst Village Council  on November 29 via a new, high-powered spokesman.   Colin McKenzie, a former village council member and Moore County commissioner, will speak for the group. Concerned Citizens has sent the following letter to village government leaders, outlining their issues: To:  Incoming Pinehurst Village Council Ms. Nancy Fiorillo, Messrs. Doug Lapins, John Cashion &…

Apple, $46 million for 50 jobs, and the $1.7M jacuzzi …

North Carolina gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory (R) and some legislative Republicans in Raleigh are talking up the idea of reforming the state’s economic development practices.  The landing of an Apple data center for the western town of Maiden is a great case study for highlighting the problem with the state’s current modus operandi: In its pitch for approval and tax breaks, Apple said it may employ 50 people at the center and expects to generate 250 more jobs in areas such as maintenance and security, according to a state website and records compiled by the city and surrounding Catawba County….
